What to do in Glenariff

In Glenariff you can relax, enjoy the scenery, and soak up the atmosphere. If you and your family feel the need to be more active try walking, cycling, pitch and putt, swimming, fishing, water sports, pony riding, bird watching or you can take one of the well-signposted scenic drives.

Walks

For keen walkers, a section off the Ulster Way begins in Waterfoot, continues along the river and crosses the Garron Plateau to Carnlough (10 Km). The Moyle Way begins in Glenariff Forest Park and crosses the mountains to Ballycastle (25 Km). The river section and quiet scenic Glassmullan Road provide a walk around the Glen.

Many other scenic walks of different lengths can be found using the network of quiet country roads in the Glen.

Glenariff Forest Park

Glenariff Forest Park covers an area of 1185 hectares. Of which about 250 hectares. Have been left open for recreation, landscaping and conservation. In the park are two small rivers containing spectacular waterfalls, tranquil pools and stretches of fast flowing water tumbling through rocky gorges. There is a café, toilets and exhibition centre. Four way-marked trails of varying length (1-9 Km) wind through the forest leading you into some of the Park’s most beautiful wooden areas. One follows the Glenariff River with its famous waterfalls and passes through the National Nature Reserve.

Hurling

You can watch a match in Glenariff Hurling Pitch on most Sundays in summer with a junior match or training on many evenings. Two teams of 15 compete using wooden hurls about a metre long and a small hard leather ball. The local Glenariff team is called the Ossians. The ladies’ game is camogie.

Beach

Glenariff has one of the finest sandy beaches in the area with car parking, picnic tables and a childrens play park - all you need for a relaxing day out!
