Tullymore Rural Amenities Group

This group was formally known as Tullymore Tenants and Residents Association and was formed in June 1982 for the residents of the Commons and Brookvale estates. Since the groups formation another estate Artoges Park has since been built and is now included in the groups on going work. The committee is made up with members of the three estates and use the facilities at Houston’s Mill for their monthly meeting held on the third Monday of each month. The Annual General Meeting is held each year in June when a new committee is elected or re-elected.

The group is concerned with improving the appearance of their estates and especially with providing facilities and safe areas for the children.
Within the years of formation the group have set about to provide a fully equipped play park, safety railings at the end of walk ways, road markings and children’s playing signs. They have also placed a number of summer seats in and around the estates for the senior citizens of the area. Outside of the estates the group have also cleared and planted daffodils and shrubs along pathways along the Tullymore Road leading to the estates. A bus shelter has also been erected.
Consequently they organise many fund raising events to finance their projects, like fireside quizzes, cake sales, selling squares for raffles and pub quizzes. Since much of their work is aimed at the children and senior citizens of the estates the monies raised through these events are used throughout the year on summer trips and Christmas dinner for the Senior Citizens and Christmas party time, with Santa for the children. Christmas hampers are also made up and distributed to Senior Citizens who cannot attend the dinner. The group hope to continue their work for many years to come as they feel that children and senior members of the community are mostly forgotten but as a group we feel that working with these two groups of people the rewards are high, firstly there is very few cases of vandalism and the senior citizens feel part of the community in which they live this we feel can only be for the betterment of everyone.
