Meeting
of the Broughshane Branch of the Royal British
Legion take place at 8.00 pm on the first
Thursday of each month from September to
June. Membership is mixed and totals 64
at present, of which some are ex-service
personnel. Members pay £10.50 per
year subscription which is sent to Headquarters
in England.
The
Broughshane Branch was re-formed about 14
years ago after lapsing for several years.
The main aim of the Royal British Legion
is raising funds for ex-service personnel
and war widows. One of the most important
focuses of their fund raising is the annual
Poppy Appeal which last year in Broughshane
raised £4,600. Helpers are always
needed for this. Other fund raising activities
held from time to time include bowling tournaments,
table quizzes and old-time dances.
The branch organises Church parades at Remembrance
Day in November and the Somme Anniversary in July and attends
services and parades in other towns.
The Royal British Legion always welcomes
new members, it is not necessary to be an ex-service person
to join.
