The Broughshane PFA Indoor Bowling Club has
over 50 members. It meets in the Community Centre on Wednesday
evening for matches, and Saturday for Club Night at approximately
7.30 pm. The season commences on the first Wednesday night of
September and continues until mid-April. Membership fee is £6.00
for the year and half price for Senior Citizens and Juniors.
The club, which has 2 teams, plays in the
Ballymena and District Indoor Bowling League. The 'A' team plays
in the First Division which consists of 9 clubs. The 'B' team
plays in the 2nd Division which also consists of 9 clubs. There
is also a 3rd Division in the League consisting of 10 teams.
All teams from the 3 Divisions play for the League Cup. The
club also plays for the George Glass Memorial Charity Cup and
the Early Riser Knockout Cup. Proceeds go to various charities
and approximately £1,200 was raised last year (1995/96)
from each competition. Both teams have been quite successful
in the League and Cup competitions through the years.
The club has also run an Open Pairs tournament
for quite a number of years, during the last week of January
and first week of February and proceeds from a raffle which
is held every night of the tournament, amounting to approximately
£500 last year, were given to Combat Cancer.
