Counties Antrim
and Derry Country Fiddlers' Association (CADCFA)
The Country Fiddlers' Association was established
officially on 14th May 1953 following several years of musical
gatherings, mainly in Cullybackey, Gracehill and Craigywarren.
The Association started as, and remains, completely non-sectarian
and non-political. Broughshane has, in recent years, become
the adopted home of the CADCFA, having particular involvement
with the Broughshane Community Centre.
The senior musicians practise on the first
and third Monday nights each month from September to May, and
a thriving tuition class operates during 3 ten-week periods
in the year with 31 trainees and many more awaiting an opportunity
to join. As with the senior players, tuition takes place in
the Broughshane Community Centre on Saturday mornings from 10.00
am to 1.00 pm. There are plans to expand the teaching facility
in the near future to include other instruments.
The Association performs at social nights
and in concerts throughout the year at various venues and there
is a longstanding tradition of performances at charitable concerts.
The CADCFA currently comprises some 20 plus artistes, including
accordionists, fiddlers, pianists, singers, banjo player and
bodhran player. The music played is mainly traditional Irish
and Scottish music.
