Broughshane
Women's Institute
The
members of Broughshane Women’s Institute
meet in the Community Centre, Knockan Road,
at 8:00pm on the second Monday of each month
from September to May.
We
have approximately 70 on the roll at present
and we belong to the Slemish area, which
comprises of 9 Institutes. The membership
fee is £13 at present.
We
have varied activities at each monthly meeting,
e.g., reflexology, gardening, cookery, and
talks on antiques, jewellery and travel.
We
also hold a craft class on each Monday evening,
excluding the 2nd Monday, when tutors take
classes in sewing, patchwork, blackwork,
card-making, glass painting, calligraphy
and painting (any medium). These are held
in Houston’s Mill. On Thursday evening
there is a floral art class.
The
Women’s Institute also hold drama
festivals, speech festivals, choir festivals,
bowling competitions, and golf competitions,
as well as the festival of food and flowers.
We have a lovely magazine called The Ulster
Countrywomen, which is available from headquarters
and keeps everyone up-to-date with Federation
and Institute news. Members from the Various
Institutes are welcome to contribute items
to be published.
We
welcome new members and it is an ideal organisation
to join to make new friends.
