Braid United Football
Club
Braid
United Football Club takes its name from
the River Braid, which runs through the
village of Broughshane.
The
Club plays in the Second Division of the
Ballymena Saturday Morning League (BSML).
The league comprises of three divisions,
and although many teams from the Ballymena
area make up these divisions, there are
Clubs from towns and villages as far apart
as Larne, Cloughmills, Templepatrick and
Carnlough, to name but a few.
Braid
Utd began playing in the BSML in the mid
1980's, but unfortunately circumstances
made them fold in 1995. However, a
new squad was formed in 1996. Although
the team which folded had made their way
into the top divison (1st division) the
new Braid Utd, under new player/manager
Gary Parrott, had to re-enter the league
in the Third Division.
In
2000, the side was promoted to the Second
Division and in 2002, Braid gained promotion
to the First Division after winning the
Second Division play-off cup - the Crawford
Cup.
In
2005 and after 3 seasons in the top flight,
the Club was relegated back into the Second
Division after a disappointing season.
