About this site
North Antrim Community Network which, is the rural support network for the North Antrim area, developed an information technology project in 1996 to overcome the difficulties of rural isolation and access to information. This innovative project enables community groups to share knowledge through email and web connections.
The project has allowed the Network to link 25 of its member groups and provide
them with the resource of a full computer system. In addition, the members have their
own web page on the Network web site. The Network won the web site category of
NICVA Scope Communication Awards 2000.
Initially the Network developed an organisational web site, www.nacn.org and then realised the need to develop an additional site that would promote the villages of the North Antrim area. The community groups in the area have developed all of the village sites within antrim.net, the majority of which is completed by volunteers. The site also includes page on the Network’s community business, Antrim Glens Cottages.
The primary reason for developing this promotional site for the area is to sustain the community project described above. Funding was initially secured from the National Lottery Charities Board and the four local councils, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Larne and Moyle. However, to achieve long-term sustainability for this project the antrim.net web site will have to start to generate income from the private sector. Therefore, we would encourage local and regional businesses to consider advertising on the web site to support the community work that is ongoing in the area. The site is currently the most developed tourism site in the area and is currently achieving a considerably high level of traffic. For further information contact the network on info@antrim.net
We hope you enjoy the
site.
